Kanate` Rajah

Kanate
For about 2 weeks I'd been having contractions that would look like a regular pattern was forming, but would never progress. They were doing some good work for me, but I felt like something was needing to be done before the baby would come. So, on the date I was due, I meditated on my baby and myself and said, "I really want you to come now, what do we have to do?" They answer was, not have a lot of people at my birth. Oh...that's all? We were going to have several of my close women friends present to help with my 2 year old daughter, and assist me etc. But I knew this baby didn't want that, and I felt a huge burden lift when I said to my husband that if we went into labor that night, we weren't going to call anybody.

Well, at 4:30 AM or so a contraction woke me up that denitely felt "different" from the others, lower and like it was working my cervix. I knew it was time. I stayed in bed for about 30 minutes, just waiting to see if the contractions kept coming and how far apart they were, then I got up out of bed and sat in my living room in the rocking chair. I was meditating and with each contraction saw a purple light radiating from me. I took that to mean my crown was opening up!! I woke up my sister/friend Beth (she lives with us) at about 6 and asked her to sit up with me for a bit. We took an early morning walk and talked about the birth and the day ahead. Got home and decided to rest for awhile on the couch until my daughter woke up around 8 am. When she and my husband woke up I made some breakfast and tea and cleaned up before we called Claudia and went for a walk. When we got back, I checked my dilation and felt my baby's head!! I was probably 5-6 cm. I got so excited I had my husband feel too. He wanted to call Claudia again immediately after feeling the head!

Caitlin (my daughter) helped blow up the pool, and bake the birthday cake with Vickie, my "mom". Claudia got there and checked me, I was at 8! Yea, I got into the pool shortly after that and relaxed for a bit because it slowed things down. I started noticing the contractions changing and knew we were going into transition. I started seeing red with the contraction as well, and thought that was so nice to go from purple with the crown energy to red at my root, when all the energy was focused in my pelvis for pushing. I started pushing facing the side of the pool and got serious when I turned to face the middle. I squatted most of the time, although I kept thinking I should stand. My baby's head came out no problem, but his shoulder got a little stuck and between Claudia and Rob (he caught too) pulling and me pushing we got him out. I did tear this time (with the shoulder), but it wasn't as scary as I had thought it would be. I have to laugh though, because my beautiful little boy has a turtle energy and once he got his head out, he didn't want to leave the rest of his shell!! The placenta was delivered very quickly and we all got out of the pool.

My beautiful Kanate` Rajah Jordan-Ervin was born into his loving family on October 20, 2006 at 8 lbs, 10 oz. My daughter, Caitlin, who was 2 years 2 months old, was present for the entire birth. She did leave the room when I started pushing, but was right back in when he was born. She cut the cord with dad and laid in the bed with us while Kanate` nursed. We all had birthday cake and rested after a
magical and blessed day.

I have to say that this birth has made me somewhat addicted to the whole process. After having my daughter, I thought I wouldn't have another for awhile, even though it was a great birth, it was a lot of work. With Kanate`'s birth, I felt like I could just do that 12 more times! Claudia said that's the difference between 1st and 2nd births.

Thank you again Claudia and Debbie for doing what you do and helping women realize their potential strength and innate wisdom.
